월트 디즈니의 애니메이션, 미녀와 야수(Beauty and the Beast)는 디즈니 애니메이션답게 OST가 단연 돋보입니다. 알라딘 작업 도중 고인이 된 하워드 애쉬먼(Howard Ashman)이 마지막으로 남긴 완성작이기도 하지요.
미녀와 야수의 사운트트랙 중 가장 유명한 건 아무래도 메인 테마인 Beauty and the Beast고, 그 다음으로 알려진 곡은 양초 캐릭터인 루미에르가 부른 Be our guest 정도이겠지만, 나름 또 주옥같은 트랙이 있으니, 바로 개스통(Gaston)이 부른 The Mob Song입니다.
이 곡이 나오는 장면은 야수의 성에서 잠시 아버지를 보러 돌아온 벨(Belle)이, 개스통을 비롯한 마을 주민들이 아버지를 정신병자 취급해서 병원에 강제로 감금시키려하자 마법의 거울을 통해 야수를 보여주는 장면부터 시작됩니다. 벨의 아버지를 정신병원에 감금시키고, 벨을 강제로 자신의 것으로 만들고자 했던 개스통의 어줍잖은 영웅 심리가 발동, 야수를 죽이자고 선동하는 그 장면, 바로 그 노래입니다. 사람들의 집단 광기가 여지없이 드러나는.
